St Andrews Healthcare | I'm not mad, I'm me

Director, producer & editor

“After working with Cat on some previous film projects we knew she was good, but her work on this documentary really just propelled her to the next level. Our brief was particularly tough – to show what life was really like behind the closed doors of a secure psychiatric hospital. We also had a really tight deadline to have it all planned, filmed and edited within 4 months. For a 30-minute fly-on-the-wall documentary this was an incredibly tough ask, but add into the mix a global pandemic and it seemed near on impossible.

But Cat absolutely went and above and beyond and delivered a fantastic project on time and within budget. She consulted us at every stage of the brief, ensuring we had full editorial control, but also providing her objective opinion on what was needed to ensure this remained an honest, independent film. Cat also provided suggestions on how to get the most out of airing the film, through things such YouTube lives and promos in the lead up to the premiere. "I'm not mad, I'm me" has subsequently been nominated for several awards and has been shown at the Global Health Film festival, as well as the Northampton Film Festival. If you don’t believe us how good it is, take a watch yourself!”

Jo Lehnamm, Senior External Communications Manager, St Andrews Healthcare

“To see such powerful mental health stories being told is brave, generous and wonderfully inspiring and when I saw I’m Not Mad, I’m Me, I knew we had to include it on our programme. Jo, Charlie and Kayleigh have shown the world there’s nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to complex mental health and together we’re one step closer to breaking the stigma that is too commonly associated with being admitted to a secure psychiatric hospital.”

— Global Health Film Festival Founder & Director

“Emotive story and invites you into an angle we rarely see portrayed when discussing mental health. Empowered Kayleigh’s story, and gave her a fantastic voice. Left me actually wanting more!”

— Northampton Film Festival Judge
